Become a Fab@CIC Contributor
Do you want to be part of running an innovative makerspace community in the heart of Boston’s business district? Fab@CIC is a digital fabrication cafe where people can connect, learn, and collaborate over a cup of coffee, a 3D printer, and more. Our resources include filament and resin 3D printers, laser cutters, an electronics workbench, vinyl cutting, large format printing and desktop CNC for circuit boards and engineering parts.
We are currently seeking designers, makers, and others with technical expertise who are interested in supporting our makerspace in exchange for access to CIC’s Design Town coworking community. Contributors must commit to 15 hours per month to conduct office hours during weekday afternoons.
Office Hours Duties:
Address technical issues with the makerspace equipment.
Answer questions and provide basic information about Fab@CIC to walk-ins.
Provide guidance on using the equipment and software to members.
Help clients with one-off projects to adapt their designs to equipment software.
Other tasks as requested by the CIC team.
* Technical guidance is different from design expertise. If they wish, individuals may choose to charge for any design expertise they give to members.
As a Fab@CIC Contributor, you will receive:
24 hour access to Fab@CIC and CIC.
Access to non-dedicated “hot” desks as workstations.
Basic desktop materials and equipment supplies.
Unlimited time on the laser cutter and vinyl cutter, up to 10 hours per month on the 3D printers and 10 hours on the CNC.
Plus, members enjoy all that CIC has to offer, including unmetered conference rooms, fully-stocked kitchens, 24/7 access, month-to-month payment terms, and invitations to diverse events.
Fab@CIC enables public access to the tools for fabrication and technical invention within the creative start-up community of CIC. We're not only a digital fabrication cafe, but a hub for the local design and maker community that connects to a global business network. We are interested in asking tough questions and in providing the local community with a unique physical space to collaborate on exceptional solutions. Join our mission to help support innovation in Boston and be part of our creative, collaborative team.
To apply: Please email firstname.lastname@example.org with your resume, plus a letter of interest that includes your relevant experience in digital fabrication and your availability during the week to host office hours and trainings.
